"Having shod your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace"

The word "preparation" here is the key. It means a prepared foundation, equipment or readiness. The Gospel provides the footing for everything we do. Are your feet firmly planted in the Word, set on the foundation of Christ (1 Cor 3:11) and ready to share the Gospel message wherever you go (1 Peter 3:15)?

The sandals worn by roman soldiers were extra tough, studded with sharp nails to increase their traction! They made it possible for armies to march long distances, across any terrain and were an offensive weapon when used in kicking an opponent.

In this passage, Paul is drawing a comparison here for us and it's important that we take note of these details. The Christian that is firmly rooted in and armed with the Gospel Message can be prepared to potentially neutralize any attack from the enemy.
